DROUGHT BROKEN FOR IBISES 2011 GNEFA MENS FINAL

DROUGHT BROKEN FOR IBISES 2011 GNEFA MENS FINAL

Friday 16th September 2011

Tatura goalkeeper Stephen Sellwood led Tatura to a drought-breaking Goulburn North East Football Association men’s title at Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve .

The Ibises were down and out twice in an epic clash, but fought back strongly to claim their first premiership since 1987.
Reno Lia played in that title 24 years ago and masterminded Tatura’s triumph.

It took a penalty shootout to separate the two teams, with keeper Sellwood the hero.
He first stopped United coach Nick Kalafatis, then early goalscorer Umut Ozdenzciler to see the Ibises claim the shootout 4-2.

United keeper Jamal Muftin had stopped Brenton Lloyd’s effort to keep United alive.
Tatura’s Dane Butler knocked in the winner, sparking raucous scenes at Deakin Reserve as Tatura fans invaded the pitch to celebrate a well earned victory.

Sellwood was awarded for his efforts with the best-onground medallion.
